"I just reviewed your trailer and it made me remember when I was sixteen, working in a furniture factory in Auburn WA, pulling boards off the "round table" (which was not unlike a baggage carrousel at the airport) where boards cut to specific lengths spilled from a conveyor belt fed by several saws. As the pile of boards rotated by I pulled them out and stacked them on pallets according to length.
Like Pete in your trailer, a nineteen-year old sawyer had just received his "Uncle Sam Wants You" letter and was freaking out. He kept saying "They can't take me without a trigger finger." A few days later he was at his feeder-saw screaming, "I cut my finger off!" bent over holding his hand between his knees, looking sick and absolutely terrified... That was the last I saw of him... I never did know if he took off enough of his finger to get out of the draft or not.
And I do remember the creepiness of shutting down the round table, tossing boards aside searching for that finger. "
